Ch 7 Perseverance
“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance”
Have you ever been in a situation that seemed impossible? Or a circumstance that was so difficult you didn’t see a solution? Did you continue on through it and eventually conquer that “impossible difficulty”? If so you demonstrated perseverance.
Perseverance is hard to come by in our culture today. We are in a culture that demands all problems, all difficulties be fixed immediately. While this is the right answer for some problems in our society, getting problems solved immediately does not build character in our lives.
That’s why Peter demands us to pursue perseverance. After we have grown in self-control, Peter knew that we would face enormous difficulties for our Godly decisions. He knows we are going to need perseverance if we plan to continue making Godly decisions in times of trial and persecution. Perseverance helps a young man finish his journey to manhood.
