Watch Your Six

I dared not move a muscle, my heart thundered in my throat.

Adrenaline flooded my veins.

Every time I went to lift my bow, another set of eyes would look my direction.

I had six doe less than fifteen yards away and there was nothing I could do, except imagine how good the deer steaks would taste fresh off the grill.

I quickly realized I was not going to get a shot, so I settled to watch the deer mosey their way past my stand on out into a field where they began grazing.

As the rush of adrenaline slowly subsided and my heart dropped back into my chest, I realized I had just been bested by a defense strategy deer and many other species of wildlife use regularly.

Sitting in my tree stand, watching the deer and setting sun fade away, I could not help but think how this strategy could be applied to every man’s life.

This strategy would help all men be better protected physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

The strategy of finding a group of other like-minded individuals to always be on the lookout for one another is used by several species in the animal kingdom successfully.

Some might call it an accountability group, others might say a truth tellers group, and others might simply call the group their buddies. Honestly, what you call this group does not matter.

What matters is that you watch out for each other.

Always checking each other’s sixes, so the enemy never has an opportunity to strike and take one of you out.
