Impact, influence, power, authority, guidance, and direction.
We impact someone’s life every single day. Make it positive.
One man that has had a huge impact on my life, no surprise, is my dad.
My dad is the one who introduced me to the outdoors.
He was there for my first fish, he was there for my first duck, he was there for my first deer.
To others my dad might not appear to be anything special, but to me he is one of the greatest men that has ever walked the earth.
My dad was my superhero as I grew up. He knew everything.
I’m certain Rodney Adkins based his song “I wanna be like you” off of my dad and I.
I looked up to my dad and still do in a number of ways.
He has had a huge impact on my life. I realized this one night when I nearly lost him when I was around age thirteen.
It was Thanksgiving night and we were all asleep.
I awaken to my mother screaming my name in terror.
Confused, thinking it is just a dream I was in no hurry to get to my parents room until she once again called for me. As I entered their room my dad was convulsing on the bed, choking and bleeding from his mouth.
Unresponsive, my dad, the man I thought could never get hurt let alone die; laid there seizing uncontrollably.
My mom called the paramedics as I took action to lift my dads head up so he would stop choking on saliva and blood. Later, we realized he had chewed up his tongue severely while having the seizure, hence the blood.
Holding my dads head in my hands I prayed that God would make this stop and tried to stay strong for my moms sake.
Eventually the first responders arrived and were able to get my dads blood sugar up to healthy levels.
After they left, I went back to my room and collapsed. Sobbing, I cried out to God telling him I couldn’t live without my dad. I needed him.
The impact my dad has had on my life up to this point was a major reason I needed him further on down the road.
I still needed him to teach me how to be a man.
Thankfully, my dad fully recovered and is still here with us today. I would not be the man I am today without the impact he has had on my life.
Who is someone that has had an impact on your life? Who’s life have you had an impact on?
