The Bible Is Offensive

The Bible is offensive. I know that’s a bold statement but it’s true. If you don’t find the Bible to be offensive in some way to your thinking, you’re not reading it in its entirety.

The Bible is meant to lead us. To be a “lamp unto our feet” as David said in Psalms. It’s how God reveals parts of Himself to us. Even the parts we find difficult to understand and comprehend.

The Bible is offensive because we still have sin in our lives. Sin is repulsed by God. It cannot exist within the presence of God. Therefore the parts of us that find the Bible offensive need to be checked. Not only checked but dealt with according to the Bible.

So yes the Bible is offensive. That doesn’t mean we should avoid it or change it so it doesn’t offend anyone. No, quite the opposite. We are supposed to use it to expose OUR OWN faults within ourselves and use it as OUR OWN guide.

We DO NOT go posting random Bible verses about how horrible sinners are onto social media. Everyone has the same standard, the Bible, but it is not our place to force people into a relationship with Jesus. That is the work of the Holy Spirit.

Have you ever found the Bible to be offensive?
