Roaring crowds. Blaring music. Beaming lights.
All are present for one thing; the championship bout.
I wrestled in many matches through my high school career, but none were bigger than the state championship tournament my senior year.
I was a major underdog at the state tournament for good reason; I had only won eight matches that season.
The rest of the guys there had at least twenty wins that season.
Two factors went into my low number wins, I had wrestled very few matches that year due to being a father and the other major factor was that I had only a fifty percent winning percentage for the entire year.
As I stepped onto the mat at the state championships, I knew I didn’t belong there.
I had earned my right to be there by taking 4th place in my regional, but I knew I was not prepared for level of talent and determination I was about to face.
My underdog story ended quickly at the state tournament when I lost my first two matches.
I was disappointed at the time, but I was excited for the opportunity to step onto the big stage before I graduated and laced up my wrestling shoes for the last time.
My battle with porn has been nothing like my wrestling experiences.
My fight with porn has been secretive, quiet, and the only light was the light from the computer screen.
The greatest struggle has been the fact that this match never ends.
Well let me rephrase that, the match at the moment might end but there is ALWAYS going to be another one to fight.
There’s no “lacing up for the last time” in the battle against pornography.
Constantly, we must stand ready for battle, at any moment the enemy might try to come sneaking in or the enemy might be blunt and face us head on.
Either way, stand ready. The battle is coming.
