“Daddy, there’s fish in the clouds.” Kailey said as I drove down the highway.
She continued to spout off about creatures of all kinds she could see in the clouds.
I was desperately searching for the creatures. I located only a few of the animals she claimed to have seen in the clouds.
I began thinking about how my imagination used to run wild.
As a child (at about the age my daughter is now) I could see the animals and objects in the clouds.
I would make up wild stories, like how my brother had been kidnapped by a crazy man (at the time I did not have a brother) or how dinosaurs were chasing the car.
I would play army in the pasture, taking out bad guys and helping the good guys on my team.
It hit me as I drove down the highway… I had lost my imagination.
No longer can I see all the clouds have to offer, nor am I making up wild stories or playing army in the pasture.
Now, some of that was for the better due to maturity, but I also believe it was detrimental to my life and I was to blame.
Albert Einstein once stated, “Imagination is more important than knowledge”.
Think about it. Without an imagination, how would humans dream up the ideas on how to put the knowledge we have to work?
God gave us an imagination and I believe even as an adult we should use it and use it regularly.
Often times like all other good things God created and gave to man, we have screwed it up and perverted it.
As an adult our imagination now begins to fantasize about sex, stress over work, or how we are going to pay the bills because we are “adults”.
That’s a load of crap, my friend.
I believe God gave humans an imagination so that we might be able to begin to grasp how amazing He is every day of our lives.
I am not claiming that we will ever be able to grasp the fullness of God’s awesomeness; with our human minds.
However, by using the imagination He has given us, we can begin the process of understanding how amazing God can be.
As you continue into this week, begin to use your imagination once again, as you did when you were a child. You might be amazed at how God reveals Himself to you!
