Deceived

We walked loaded down with decoys, guns, and gear.

Deciding to take a more direct route to the boat, we trudged across a mud flat that appeared solid.

The mud gave way to the weight of the gear and our bodies before we had a chance to turn back; we were hip deep, sunk in the mud.

We struggled to dislodge the gear from our backs, trying to lighten our load. Once we had managed to free ourselves from our gear, we were faced with the task of freeing ourselves from the mud itself.

The mud held tightly to our waders, fighting for every inch we managed to slip its grasp, only after helping each other out of the mess we were in.

We crawled back to a solid foundation with our gear.

As we rested, we discussed how the mud flat was extremely deceptive. Neither one of us had suspected to be in that predicament from the looks of the flat.

The mud appeared to be and was solid for a short distance, similarly to the sin in our lives.

We, as Christians, often take a detour from God’s desired path for our lives and choose to take the path of sin.

Sin is enjoyable and sustainable for a short season. Then seemingly out of nowhere the bottom drops out and we are stuck.

Not just a little stuck either. We get stuck beyond what we can manage to get out of alone.

We need a truth teller in our lives to direct us and aid us as we travel through life and follow the path that has been laid out before us by our Father in Heaven.

It would have been disastrous had I been stuck on my own that day. Thankfully I had a quality friend to help pull me from the grip the mud had on me.
