She snuck in quietly trying not to wake me from my nap, one of the rare instances I was fortunate enough to take a nap.
She poked me in the ribs and tapped my shoulder like only her tiny little hands can do and said “Daddy when you wake up I wanna show you this song, Glorious by rock dog” (It is officially titled Glorious by Adam Friedman).
I rolled over, head still in a bit of a fog, and answered back “okay sissy”.
I got up about 10 minutes later and headed for the living room. As I approached the living room she looked up and said “do you want to hear that song now?”
I smiled and said “of course.”
At this point you might be thinking I’m an amazing dad but the truth is I have many faults and here is the proof.
I was thinking to myself “this is probably one of these cheesy Christian kids’ songs that I will have to suffer through. It turned out not to be a Christian song.
To my surprise I loved it, everything about it actually, the beat, the lyrics, the voice of the artist singing it, everything.
What made it even better was the fact that Kailey began dancing to it.
Once again here is another one of my faults.
She wanted me to dance with her, still being a bit foggy headed and honestly out of selfishness I resisted her and said “maybe later.”
Thankfully that didn’t phase her one bit; she kept on dancing and singing, having a good time.
I eventually gave in to her pleads. We had a dance party in the living room.
Dancing with a four year old is a blast. Especially, if you have two left feet like me, I was able to let loose and act silly with my daughter that afternoon with no one to judge my dancing skills.
I didn’t worry about what others would think, I wasn’t worried about work, I focused on what mattered most in that moment. Enjoying the precious gift God has given me.
Time with my daughter.
