Have you ever wanted to give up?
I have, multiple times. I have wanted to give up writing. I have wanted to give up wrestling. I have wanted to give up, but I know a real man perseveres.
During my high school wrestling career, I gave up too often.
Honestly, I had the talent to be at the top. I could hang with the best of them, if I believed I could.
I had the skills needed to win but for some reason I couldn’t get that through my thick skull.
There were several matches where I let defeat enter my mind and I gave up. Before the match had begun I had already decided the outcome, in my mind.
I didn’t run out of time. I was not beat. I lacked grit.
Once giving up was an option, defeat was eminent. Defeat lurked around the corner.
Failure to persevere kept me from my full potential.
Don’t allow it to keep you from yours.
A real man will persevere through the difficult times. A real man is never guaranteed victory in every battle, but the war has already been won. We need only to show a little grit to obtain the victory.
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him” – James 1:12.
Do you have grit?
